The integrally geared compressor is a centrifugal compressor. The choice of single- or multistage compressor is governed by the profile of requirements. The various types of integrally geared compressors are characterised by low operating costs, a relatively low investment outlay and excellent partial load performance. The compressor consists of a gear unit with a central bull gear that drives two to eight radial-flow impellers (variant with two bull gears and a maximum of ten impellers). It is equipped with interstage coolers. Multistage integrally geared compressors also offer the option of combining the processes of compression (combined compressor) and expansion (compander variant).
